Where do I get information & graphics to put on my web site?

Making a successful site is synonymous with making it unique and original. It is for that reason, that you should develop your own written materials. In addition, you may also wish to supplement your materials by asking your company, organization, suppliers, and/or franchisors if they would allow you to incorporate some of their marketing and/or promotional information into your web site.

When you are gathering together your website materials, it is more important to remember where you should not obtain your website information and graphics from. You should never take or copy graphics, information or content from another person or company's website without first receiving written permission from the owner of the materials.

So where do you get the information and graphics for your site? The answer is clear. Write the content yourself and/or only use information that you have written permission to use. This may not be the easiest way to put your website information together, but it is the best. The end result will be an original website that is uniquely you. As far as graphics are concerned, keep them unique by having Your Web Designer create original graphics and/or obtain the proper permissions to use company logos, and/or graphics.

Be original - be unique - be successful!

Do you use contracts?

Yes! We use contracts for all our work to protect both parties from misunderstanding and confusion. Our web design contract includes an exacting description of your design project, the time line, payment information, copyright information and all the basics.

What is your design philosophy?

We believe strongly that content is "king" on a web site. It doesn't matter if your site has a cutting edge design and incorporates the latest technology if nobody can find it, read it, or find the information they're looking for. Concise, valuable information must be displayed in a manner that is pleasing to the eye, quick loading, and available to those who may not have the very latest technology.

We work hard to edit text and graphics to meet these goals.

What is hosting?

Hosting = space on a computer "out there" that will hold your web site so it may be accessed by anyone on the world wide web. We're happy to get you online using the services of the hosting companies trhat we work with, and then maintaining your account if you so choose.

Why do I need to pay for a host when I can put my site on some servers for free?

There are many services that allow you to host your site for free, and this IS an option that we offer. Generally, free hosts do not convey a professional image and do not offer the degree of control needed for a professional presentation. We have created many family or personal websites using the free web hosting services, but since they utilize advertisements as a means of paying their bills, unfortunately, a pop-up ad will always be distracting to the real content of the page, and will tend to make visitors leave.

Do you use templates to make your web sites?

No, unless you specifically request that we use a template. Every site we create is unique and designed especially for you or your business. A unique website is memorable and sends a message that you are different than your competition and you care about quality.

What is a domain name?

A domain name is the unique address of your web site on the world wide web. For example, the domain name for a company that sells crafts that we designed is: www.kingofcrafts.com. Domain names are obtained by registering them with a domain name registrar. We can assist you in selecting and registering domain names or you can complete this yourself.

My son is learning HTML in school. Can he design my site?

Maybe. We spend more than forty hours a week creating web sites and refining our skills. Designing excellent web sites goes beyond knowing HTML, but also takes into consideration visual layout, writing style, search engine positioning strategy and client style. If your son can take all these factors into account and provide a professional online presentation for your business or family needs, then the answer is yes. However, be aware that sometimes you don't know what you don't know and that lack of information can hurt you and your business.

Can you maintain my web site?

Yes! We maintain web sites for 99% of our web design clients and enjoy helping our clients continue to develop their vision online. Maintenance provided by the original designer of your site provides better results, fewer problems, and therefore lower costs to you. We'll deal with the hassles and you can deal with your business.
